A curved dick is nothing to get bent out of shape about.

Porn, media, and Bad Dragon dildos have skewed perceptions of what the average penis looks like. But every dong is a snowflake. They come in different shapes, sizes, and curvatures. Whatever you’re packing underneath those sweatpants is uniquely yours. Repeat after us: My shaft is special.

Whether your member leans left, right, up, or down, that’s OK. Grindr is here to ease your sexual anxiety and put you back on the straight and narrow (or curved and thick) with some helpful information about your bent penis.

How much curve is too much curve?

When it comes to anatomy, there’s no such thing as “normal.” Some men have penises that are totally straight when erect, and we love that for them. But it’s common for men to have penile curvature between 5 and 30 degrees. Some are born with the gift of a slightly curved penis, whereas others develop a bent carrot later in life.

Penis doctors aren’t in total agreement about what exactly “too much curve” is and isn’t. If it isn’t hurting you or getting worse, there’s probably nothing to worry about. However, you should consult with a urologist if you have other symptoms or if it makes intercourse uncomfortable.

Here are some symptoms that suggest you should seek medical attention:

  • Pain in your penis during sexual intercourse or masturbation
  • Discomfort or difficulty for you or your partner during intercourse
  • Sudden changes in the length, girth, or general shape of your penis

Severe discomfort, especially when you have an erection, could be a sign of a more serious condition like Peyronie’s disease.

Sharp curves ahead: Peyronie’s disease

Peyronie’s disease is a connective tissue disorder in the penis. Fibrous scar tissue develops in the deep tissues under the skin of your penis, making your member curve or twist. This can make it uncomfortable or painful to get hard, masturbate, or have intercourse.

What causes Peyronie’s disease?

There’s no conclusive evidence about what exactly causes Peyronie’s disease. Researchers believe the condition can occur under the following circumstances:

  • Sex injury: An awkward angle or vigorous movement can cause minor injuries or fractures to your penile tissue. We love a good power bottom or tip-top top; just be wary of slipping out. If your penis flops out and is forcefully bent against your partner’s body, it can cause scar tissue.
  • Sports injury: A cup isn’t just a fun accessory for acting out that locker room role-play fantasy. It comes in handy for contact sports and physical activity that might result in a hard blow to the groin. If you do soccer, rugby, or martial arts, protecting your pecker can save you in the long run. Plus, everyone will be curious about that big bulge.
  • Accidents: Help! I’ve fallen, and I hit my cock! Falling onto an object or receiving a blow straight to the rod can cause severe trauma that leads to curvature.
  • Medical procedures: Certain medical procedures or surgeries involving the penis or pelvic area could injure your penile tissue, potentially increasing your risk of developing Peyronie’s disease.
  • Family history: Some men are born this way. Others develop a curved penis naturally as they age. Researchers think it could run in the family. The only way to find out is to bring it up at Thanksgiving.

What are the symptoms of Peyronie’s disease?

Most men don’t just wake up one morning with a bent stiffie. A curve tends to develop over time. Here are some other common symptoms that signal it’s time to see a urologist:

  • Lumpy dick: A chubby dick is something we’ll gladly douche for. But if your penis looks lumpy, it’s cause for concern. Noticeable lumps or bands of hard tissue are known medically as plaques. They form around the shaft of your penis and are visible when you are both flaccid and hard. They might also look like indentations or narrowing in a bottleneck or hourglass shape.
  • It hurts to cum: Scar tissue can cause discomfort when you’re flaccid, and the pain may become more noticeable when you get an erection, have sex, or ejaculate. Plaques and curvatures along the shaft of your penis can put pressure on your urethra or affect the natural flow of semen.
  • You can’t get it up: Peyronie’s disease can lead to erectile dysfunction. It’s one more reason to consult with a doctor if you suddenly have difficulty achieving an erection.
  • Shorter or narrower penis: Plaques pull at your penis, which can cause it to become shorter or more narrow.

How to diagnose and treat Peyronie’s disease

If you suspect the bend in your penis is an acute medical condition, get off WebMD and make an appointment with a urologist. In many cases, a doctor can diagnose Peyronie’s disease with a physical examination, although an ultrasound or MRI may be used to get a better view of the situation.

Treatment will vary depending on the severity of your symptoms. Here are some common treatments:

  • Medications: Nonsurgical methods like oral medications or intralesional therapy with collagenase injections directly into the plaque can help reduce pain and curvature.
  • Traction therapy: In some cases, wearing a penile traction device for a set amount of time each day may help straighten your penis by stretching it in the opposite direction of the curve.
  • Surgery: Surgery might be recommended in severe cases or if your penis doesn’t respond to other treatments. Surgical procedures include removing scar tissue, shortening the opposite side of the penis (plication), or inserting a penile prosthesis to straighten the penis.

Medical intervention isn’t just for improving aesthetics. Identifying symptoms, diagnosing Peyronie’s disease, and treating an uncomfortable curved penis can enhance your sexual health and quality of life.

Embrace all your curves

Although you might not want to mention your curved member in your dating bio (or upload it to your profile pics), there are many benefits to (healthy) curvature.

1. A little curve goes a long way

When it comes to hitting your partner’s P-spot, a curved penis is a superpower. If you curve upward, a traditional doggy sex position will hit the prostate, whereas if you bend downward, an intimate missionary position will milk that bussy. It’s a great excuse to study different sex positions and perfect all the right moves.

2. We love a unique aesthetic

Just like size queens love a colossal dick, others might go wild over your one-of-a-kind attribute. There may not be a name for it in the gay glossary yet, but we have no doubt that there are curve kings out there.

3. Let’s talk about sex

Your unique penis is a key to opening up communication about sexual pleasure with your partner. Talking about favorite positions beforehand or communicating what speed, pressure, and angle work during sex can deepen intimacy and guarantee everybody cums.
