Setting the Record Straight on “Grindr Outages”

We get it: “Grindr is down” has become a familiar punchline whenever a political convention comes to town.

But the claim is false. Grindr does not experience outages because of conventions, political events, or other large gatherings.

Third-party outage trackers rely on self-reported user complaints, which can spike for any number of reasons. When Grindr has a confirmed service incident, we report it directly on our status page.

And, for the technically curious: a crowded venue can strain local cellular or Wi-Fi networks, making any app harder to use. 

Politics has enough jokes. Being gay isn’t one.
